We kicked the weekend off with a bang when Mom and Dad's friends from Boston came to the Hamptons to stay with us for the long weekend. Eleia and Jeff were the first friends to see the house and they loved it. I was sleeping when they got in on Thursday night so it was really nice when I woke up on Friday morning and they greeted me with their warm smiles! Mom and I didn't think it thru but quickly realized that we just took in 2 babysitters for the weekend! Eleia and Jeff were a huge help and spent lots of time with me while Mom got to do a whole lot of cooking. After spending the morning in the sun on Friday with the ladies while the boys went golfing, Mom got working on lunch. The game plan for the weekend consisted of food, food, beer, wine and more food. You know how much we love to eat...so Ma planned out a pretty insane menu of food for the weekend. While Mom prepped turkey burgers and creamed spinach stuffed tomatoes for lunch, I hung out with Jeff in the grass. I wore Jeff out...he started getting sleepy and all of a sudden I looked over and he was passed out. Thank the lord Eleia was there as back up! Eleia is really pretty and honestly I didn't really care that she was married to Jeff...I know I can win her over. So as soon as Jeff fell asleep I made my first move and peed all over her...
The gang enjoyed a fabulous lunch while I took a snooze. Luckily for me I got their leftovers and was in heaven! So flavorful and tasty...nice work guys! I love summer time BBQ'in!
After we spent more time in the pool, Project Brisket (PB) began. What is PB all about you ask? You remember the gift Ma and I got for Papa for father's day right? The Big Green Egg. Well this was the BEST gift ever because Pop is totally obsessed with his new toy! He wanted to smoke a brisket for Saturday night's dinner. This is a 12 hour project and he had to get the rub made and meat marinated in advance. So Friday afternoon he got working and we all gathered around to watch!
Papa was so excited to smoke his brisket he could hardly sleep that night...he woke up at 4:30am on Saturday and wanted to get started but held off till I woke up at 7 so I could help him....
Going back to Friday afternoon - Eleia and Jeff brought us a fantastic gift. Have you heard of Corn Hole? It's an incredibly fun game that they introduced mom and dad to a couple of years ago. They got us a set personalized with Duke stickers and boards that are blue and white - so cool! We couldn't have been more excited! And the games began right after they gave it to us!
The excitement continued on Friday night when Goon arrived for the weekend. He tossed some bean bags into the corn hole and then got on the phone. That was the last that we saw of him for the weekend as he hid out in his room yacking on the phone coming out only to grab food and drinks from the fridge. So much so he basically resembled a 14 year old girl who was abusing the minutes on her cell phone...it was so funny, we started to call her (I mean him) Candy.
After I went to bed the gang continued the tradition for the weekend and had a seafood feast. They made a backyard clambake and it was unreal! Mom found the recipe and Jeff orchestrated the whole meal. He studied the recipe carefully, made some notes and then hit the ground running. The seafood was steamed on the bbq and could very well have been the best meal of my parents life! I know this because they talked about it for the rest of the weekend...thanks for rubbing it in guys! I noticed there was nothing left over for me this time...
When I woke up on Saturday the sun was shining again and Papa was decked out in the apron that I made him for father's day manning the 10 pound brisket that he put on his big green egg.
I sat down for breakfast after reviewing PB with papa and gobbled up a little waffle. Aunt Candy walked out of his room while I was eating and parked himself on the chairs outside with cell phone in tow. How can one man talk on the phone so much? What is there to talk about?
Mom and Eleia worked hard all morning on prepping food for the day...because around lunch time we had more visitors! Ben, Heather, Tim, Lisa and Baby David arrived. Wow! How fun! We had some great play time and of course...MORE FOOD!
The afternoon started to wind down and Eleia (aka my new girlfriend) had made some deviled eggs to serve as an appie before dinner. I wanted to try one sooo bad but Doc G says I cannot have egg whites yet. UGH! Doctor G - come on man! Ben did a great job serving them up while lookin pretty in his fancy swim shorts...
Post eggs - Papa checked on the brisket...holy moses that smells good! I am SO jealous! Cannot believe I'm going to miss this stellar meal. It's so not fair Ma!
More guests arrived for a total of 11 adults for dinner. This time it was Traci and Justin AND - none other then Tallulah their dog! I've been dying to meet her and am so glad that I finally did! She's such a sweet doggie and I think she really liked me as she licked my face and wagged her tail for me!
Dinner was an insane hit - the brisket was gone in about 30 seconds - seriously...I'm not kidding you. I had no idea adults could consume food that quickly! Eleia also whipped up some cupcakes for Goon's birthday which is next Friday. She attempted to assemble a letter G (for Goon) on one of the cakes...I think it came out pretty good! They confided in me later in the weekend...there was a bit of a mix up in the kitchen as they attempted to use Ma's new Kitchenaid machine...they originally made the deviled eggs and cupcakes on Friday night...after a couple glasses of wine...and had some issues when the mixer didn't incorporate the butter into the cupcake batter...and failed to whip out the lumps in the eggs. Hence...they had to remake everything on Saturday morning! Lessons learned...
The dessert continued with some smores! The Tasso's brought a bag of goodies: Graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate. Luckily Dad's big green egg was readily available for an instant bonfire to get the smores hot and melted to everyone's liking. Again...I find myself missing the really fun activities and good food! I can't wait till my curfew gets extended past 8pm...
A fun night was had by all and in the morning I woke up to find baby David still in my house! The Gibson's slept over which was a great surprise to me. As I ate my breakfast baby D heard me and came running out to play. We went out to the deck to cause trouble...first with some toys...and then...into the beer box we go! What? I can't have one?
It was a fun and tiring day so after a few hours of running around I passed out on Papa. Do we look like a couple of orangoutangs or what?
After a rather cheesy Hamptons photo shoot:
We had to head out to a BBQ at Josh's in the afternoon. Guess who was there? Doctor G!! We got to meet his son Grey, his wife and his nanny. We also got to eat some saucy, delicious ribs and see Blakely! I think Eleia got a bit jealous...
I made it up to Eleia in the car on the ride home as I put my feet all over her and held her hand...I think we're back together now...
When we got back to the house, we got yet another visitor - this time it was Uncle Dov! The gang had another great meal (chicken on the green egg - of course) and then hit the corn hole boards! There was a party happening in the house in our backyard. There is a family from Argentina who live there. They have 3 boys (ages 6, 3 and 1) and had come by on Saturday to invite us over. Although we were very tempted to check out their sweet crib we just hung back and listened to the crazy loud music that they were sporting. They played some great tunes and it was so loud it sounded like the DJ was set up next to our pool.
Today the weekend came to an end and I had major anxiety about saying good bye to Eleia. Papa can't live without Jeff and I cannot live without Eleia - it was so sad to see them go. The good news is - they are going to come back at the end of the month and we have planned to make July 4th a family tradition between us! They will come back EVERY year - ya hoo! To say goodbye we played ball in the pool and made pizza on the big green egg - obsessed much? I'd say so!
HAPPY JULY 4TH! HOPE EVERYONE READING HAD AS GOOD A WEEKEND AS I DID.
